Reading the site

  • You do not need an account to read anything here, and none can be created. There are no comment forms and no contact forms.
  • Reading the site sets no cookies. The only cookies the site uses belong to the Brief Pass page, described below.
  • The pages, fonts, styles and images are served from this site itself. The only outside service the pages load is the adengine.us ad described under Advertising, on the pages listed there.
  • The site uses no analytics service. The ad tag counts one page view per page, kept only as a daily total.
  • Like any website, the web server keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, page requested, referring site, browser) for security and troubleshooting.

How briefs are written

Each brief is written by an AI model (OpenAI) from public agency sources that this site’s server fetches. Nothing about visitors is sent to the model. The method is on How briefs are made.

The Brief Pass

  • The site is in preview: checkout is not open to the public, everything is free, and no payment can be taken.
  • When checkout opens, you pay through PayPal, and your card details go to PayPal, not to this site. No account or email address is needed: your pass is a key kept in a cookie in your browser (cb_pass) and shown as a pass link you can bookmark. The site stores only a one-way hash of that key, the PayPal subscription ID and its status. It does not store your name, email address or card details.
  • The Brief Pass page sets a one-day security cookie (cb_csrf) that protects its forms. The site owner’s test link sets its own cookie (cb_owner) in the owner’s browser only.
  • “Lost your pass link?” asks for your PayPal subscription ID and the email address on that subscription. The site checks them against PayPal’s record and does not keep the email address. To stop guessing, attempts are limited per IP address; only a hash of the address is kept, and it expires after an hour.
  • The private full-text feed address contains a secret code. Keep it to yourself.

Site administration

Sign-ins and password-reset requests for the site’s admin area are logged with the IP address to block password guessing. Readers never use these.

Advertising

The home page, the lists of briefs, About, How briefs are made and Pricing each show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. The briefs themselves carry no ad, and neither do Contact, the Brief Pass page or this privacy page.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.
